AI-900 Is Now AI-901: What Changed and How to Prepare

AI-900 was retired on June 30, 2026 and replaced by AI-901. Learn what changed, what stayed the same, whether AI-900 study materials still apply, and how to prepare for AI-901.

Microsoft retired the AI-900 (Azure AI Fundamentals) exam on June 30, 2026 and replaced it with AI-901. The AI-901 covers all AI-900 topics plus two new skill areas: Generative AI Workloads on Azure (covering Azure OpenAI Service, Copilot, and prompt engineering) and Agentic AI Workloads (covering AI agents, multi-agent systems, and orchestration frameworks).

Candidates who already hold the AI-900 certification remain certified. Most AI-900 study materials still apply to AI-901 for the foundational skill areas, but candidates should supplement with Azure OpenAI and Copilot content for the new generative AI and agentic sections.
